Haileybury was a standout star performer at the education sector’s night of nights, the Australian Education Awards 2021. The virtual ceremony held on Friday, 3 December attracted some of the country’s best schools — each vying to be recognised as a leader in the various categories.
Haileybury walked away with three of the nation’s top titles, including non-government Primary School of the Year for a record third time.

We also won Best Remote Learning Program and Best Student Wellbeing Program in the annual awards presented by The Educator.
Jeanette Rawlings, Head of Edrington, accepted the award on behalf of the School and said Haileybury was honoured to be recognised nationally, especially after a challenging 2021 and the rolling impacts of the pandemic. She added that receiving the Primary School of the Year award for a record third time was hugely rewarding for the School, young students and families.
“We are so proud of the efforts of our students and staff in continuing a strong program in and out of each lockdown,” says Jeanette.
“The primary years of school are a critical time in a child’s education and we are thrilled that Haileybury’s work to create the best possible primary school environment has been recognised again.”
Haileybury’s exceptional remote learning program also attracted well-earned praise from the judging panel.
Staff and students were supported to make the most of the world of digital learning with students not only benefiting from a virtual classroom but also able to join in optional online sessions including music concerts, extra academic support, Lego challenges, cooking classes and Zumba family fitness classes.
“We prioritise great teacher practice, supported by great technology As most schools contracted their programs during lockdown, Haileybury expanded its breadth of opportunities for students,” says Anna Sever, Deputy Principal (Teaching and Learning).
“As many institutions said, ‘No, that is not possible’, our attitude was that we would find a way to make learning possible – and to realise that perhaps some of the newer methods of learning may work even better.”
Completing the hat trick of awards, the strength of Haileybury’s Student Wellbeing Program was recognised. Students in each year level are supported to enjoy the best emotional, physical and social wellbeing, some Haileybury staff have undertaken Youth Mental Health First Aid
